Staff

Episode 18 features a first in our podcast’s history: live music!

You’re in for something special with Episode 18 of The Warrior Way Podcast.

Our guest is Grace Korak, an alumna of the Class of 2019 at Liberty Christian School, who is a Christian music-based artist out of Nashville. She’s joined by Johnny Isom, the host of this episode, who is also LCS’ Director of Alumni Relations.

In this episode, Grace dives into her brief stint at Liberty in the Upper School. She also explains how God’s plan for her life has taken her on a career journey that she couldn’t have envisioned. And she has what is probably the most efficient Lightning Round in the history of this show.

To top it all off: she plays some of her music!

Coach Isom (around the 5:56 mark): “You talk about graduating from Liberty and starting what's going to become of your career. Tell us about your transition from graduating and walking off the stage of Liberty Christian graduation to what's next for Grace? “

Grace: “It was such a hard process because my whole life I was so college driven. I was like, ‘I'm going to college after school. Like nobody could tell me anything else. That's what I'm doing.’

“You know, I was out of college prep school, and then the Lord just completely was like, ‘Hey, like, just slow down for a minute.’ And He was able to create opportunities for me to pursue a career in Christian music as an artist and as a songwriter.

“So that was kind of hard, and also exciting, for me, like a [tough] pill to swallow because that dream of going to college is not what I felt like the Lord was calling me to at that time.

“He just had been continuing to open these other doors. When I graduated, I decided to pursue those opportunities and go into [music]. It is definitely not what I expected it to look like because I mean, COVID happened, obviously. So that was just kind of like a changing moment. And then also I started dealing with chronic illness and becoming sick and it was just not what I pictured it to look like.

“And so, after that happened that year, I ended up moving to Nashville because that's just where I was traveling to. But it was kind of hard during COVID. It was just like where the Lord had just been calling me and leading me to go.

“I would fly there for writes and then I eventually moved there and just started connecting people and going to these writers rooms with writers that I was never expecting to write with.

“I was like, ‘How am I here? Why are you writing with me? Like, I sang that song at a 5th grade talent show. What is happening?’

“What is my life right now? And it was really just testimony to the Lord's faithfulness in Him walking with me because it's scary to not go to college and not go the traditional route that I thought I was going to go on and just kind of step out in faith and where the Lord was calling me and drawing me to.

“And so, yeah, my life has just looked a lot different ways. [I’ve] had a lot of jobs, a lot of just like side hustles, while also pursuing music full time, working with an amazing team, and being able to have the most amazing opportunities.

“It’s definitely not what I expected my life to look like, but I love it.”

Coach Isom: "For sure. Well, kudos for you for, one, just being obedient [to the Lord]. And then also to for your pursuing your dreams. I think that's awesome that you get to of do both."
