Varsity Golf in District Play, Ready for Regionals and State

Hosted by All Saints Episcopal, Liberty Christian’s golf teams are in the middle of district competition at the Hawk Creek Golf Course near downtown Fort Worth April 1–2.

Trinity Christian will host regionals at the Sherrill Park Golf Course in Richardson, Texas, on April 15–16, and TAPPS 6A State will be played at the Stone Tree Golf Course in Killeen, Texas, on April 29–30. In between these dates, the team will play in Myrtle Beach, S.C., on April 17–20 at the annual tournament featuring high school golf teams from around the country.

For the fall and spring season, head coach Larry Frank enters his teams in all 5A and 6A tournaments sponsored by the University Interscholastic League (UIL), the organization that administers nearly all athletic contests for public schools in Texas.

“We have had two golfers win at different times both in the fall and spring, Camron Reddell and Andrew Gibson,” he said. “The day before Spring Break, we competed in Longview at the East Texas Twisted 54 and finished fourth as a team out of 20, with the team shooting 316 and 310, so our talent is starting to produce at just the right time going into District, Regionals, and State.

“Those two rounds at Longview would have won State last year.”

After Spring Break, the team tied for third in the District Preview at Hawk Creek and finished in third at the Regional Preview at Sherrill Park, where Andrew shot 74 for second place and Camron shot 75 for third.

“Nathan Rosser is our third player in the lineup but is off by eight strokes to his regular rounds,” added Coach Frank. “The same with our fourth and fifth players Drennan Ryan and Cameron Fellers who are off 13 strokes to their regular rounds.

“We missed second at the Regional Preview by just one stroke as a team.”

Coach Frank said that he is so proud of his team that has overcome several challenges this season.

“We are rebuilding, but the talent is showing up,” he said. “The Lord is moving in the lives of several players, and I am excited to see what Jesus is going to do with those players and the team overall.”

Ellie Fellers is the girls’ team one and only standout.

“She has several colleges looking at her, as she has won once this year and earned two second, third, and fourth place finishes as well,” Coach Frank said.

At the District Preview at Hawks, Ellie had two double bogies and six birdies to shoot 75 and finish second in the tournament.

“In addition, Coach Brock Burroughs is back after the basketball season, coaching Ellie and helping with the JV golfers,” said Coach Frank. “He is a great asset to our golf program and truly a good golf coach.”
