While the story is a tale as old as time, Liberty’s performance promises to be both new and familiar.
Liberty Fine Arts Director Misty Baptiste said the production, which will feature students from sixth through 12th grade, offers something for everyone.
“This show has a timeless message about striving to see beauty and goodness in others,” she said. “We all need to be reminded to do that, and this show offers us a truly joyful reminder.”
Beauty and the Beast centers on an independent Belle, trapped in her provincial town, who finds her life turned upside down as she takes her father’s place as a captive in an enchanted castle ruled by an angry Beast. With help from the creatures in the castle and her own kindheartedness, Belle finds the prince inside the Beast and works to break the magic that permeates the mysterious castle and all of its inhabitants.
Baptiste, who is in her 20th year of teaching theatre at Liberty, said the audience can expect “tremendous talent and a first-rate production.”
“Liberty's All School Musicals are different because they allow students from sixth through-12th grade to work together to create a once in a lifetime experience,” she said.
”So many areas of the Fine Arts department contribute to the success of the show. That collaboration and creativity is what fine arts is all about - Choir, Theatre, Band, Art all pour their talents into the show.”
