Liberty faculty teach to the whole child, fostering spirit, mind, and body. The staff and faculty support the different learning styles, knowing each child is designed with unique gifts and talents. Applied Music — All students from kindergarten through fifth grade participate in applied music classes each week for 30 minutes. A computer and piano keyboard are provided for each student in Liberty’s Music Computer Laboratory.
Art — Students in kindergarten through fourth grade participate in a 45-minute art class once a week, where they are exposed to a variety of projects, materials, and lessons. Art is an elective choice in fifth grade.
Band — Fifth grade students choosing to participate in the band program attend four 45-minute classes each week. The fundamentals necessary to perform well on a musical instrument are emphasized in fifth grade band, such as tone production, technique, tonguing styles, balance of the ensemble, dynamics, starting and releasing together, counting rhythms, and developing steady time. Two major performances each year help to develop the students’ stage presence.
Computer — Students in kindergarten through fourth grade attend computer class once a week for 30 minutes; fifth grade students participate in weekly 45-minute computer classes. The computer lab is also accessible for class visits throughout the week for teachers to reinforce lessons from their curriculum.
Musical Theatre — This fifth grade elective course is a practical application adventure for students to grow in their talents, abilities, and confidence. Students attend four 45-minute classes each week and learn various acting techniques and proper vocal projection. Students perform in two drama and musical theatre productions each year.
Latin — This program is designed to introduce children in grades kindergarten through fifth to the Latin language and to the culture in which it was used. Latin, when taught early enough, is as vital to beginning vocabulary as phonics is to reading. Just as phonics helps children read words, Latin helps children determine what words mean.
Music History and Appreciation — Kindergarten through fourth grade classes explore the history and theory of music in this fun and interactive weekly 30-minute class. Using the PSIA system, students learn to recognize great works of famous composers and the historical periods in which they were created.
Physical Education — Physical education guides children into being physically active for a lifetime. Lower School students in kindergarten through fifth grade attend PE class for 30 minutes every day of the school week.
Super Science — Exciting hands-on science labs are taken into the classrooms to support and enhance the A Beka curriculum. Kindergarten to fifth grade students are given the opportunity to put their knowledge into action and apply it to their lives through actual experience.
Vocal Music — Voice, theory, sight-reading, and performance are taught at every grade level. Along with Kodally, Theory Time is used at each level. Students in kindergarten through fourth grade participate in vocal music once each week for 30 minutes. There are two major performances for every level, developing stage presence in the students.
