College Advising

As we send our graduates to some of the most prominent colleges and universities, our prayer is that with their intelligence, character, and spiritual knowledge, they will think critically, promote responsibility, and encourage a passion to know Christ, while loving others and articulating a Christian worldview.

College Advising Mission

Admission to college is the culmination of the Liberty experience. It is our philosophy that there is no one perfect school, but rather a sound educational match for each student. Our mission is to help each senior choose a college or university which will best meet his or her needs and abilities: academically, socially, philosophically, and economically.

A Four-Year Program

One of the most important decisions that a high school student makes will be which college to attend. The college counselor, assisted by parents and teachers, helps make this decision process rewarding and exciting for the student. Liberty’s college counseling program is designed to work with students through their senior year.

The onset of college planning starts in the spring of the eighth grade year with the preparation of a student’s four-year plan. Students and parents meet with their Academic Advisor to sketch out the courses the student will be taking to prepare for college. The program’s goal during the freshman year is to familiarize students with various colleges by taking the students on The Tour of Colleges. This trip allows students to experience the college atmosphere at small and large colleges, public and private. Students meet with college admissions representatives and are able to realize the importance of their high school years as a solid foundation in preparation for college.

During the freshman year, the student takes the PLAN test. Sophomores take the PSAT/NMSQT for practice. During the junior year, students participate in PSAT, SAT, and ACT review and testing. In the Spring, juniors are given instruction on the college admissions process. During the senior year, the program focuses on the actual process of college selection and application using Naviance Family Connection as a tool to successfully navigate through the process. The College Counselor assists in the preparation of support documentation that accompanies each application to a college. Notifying students of new procedures or changes in admission policies at the colleges is part of the support given to each student. Scholarship information is also shared with students and parents.

As a college preparatory school, approximately 98% of Liberty graduates enroll in college each year. Our experience in guiding students through the selection and admissions process can greatly increase the chances of a successful college matriculation, just as our educational program prepares them for a successful academic college career.
